“I'd been opening the mail over the trash can. Laverne read the audit letter with me on the first call and told me which receipts mattered.”

Fit check
A quick check before you pay anyone
Most people who write to us are a fit. Some can sort things out on their own, and a few need a different kind of lawyer. Here's how to tell.
We're likely the right help
Bring the letter to a free call and we'll quote a flat fee.
An audit of your return or your business's
Back taxes you can't pay in full
A levy, a lien or a final notice
Payroll tax, or a penalty aimed at you as the owner
An estate return, or a late parent's tax debts
You may not need a lawyer
We'll say so on the call, and show you where to start.
You've filed every year and can pay over time: the IRS lets most people set up a plan online
You only need a return prepared: a CPA or enrolled agent will cost less
The letter changes your refund and you agree with it
We'll point you elsewhere
We don't take these, and we'll give you names that do.
A criminal tax investigation
Bankruptcy: we refer those cases to bankruptcy lawyers
Tax owed to another country
How it works
One flat fee, and every meeting on a screen
You don't have to drive downtown or take a morning off. We meet by video from wherever you are in the state, and the fee is set before any work starts, so the bill never depends on how long the IRS takes.
What happens after you get in touch
A free 30-minute video call to read the letter with you
A flat fee in writing, listing what it leaves out
A power of attorney filed, so the IRS writes to us first
A copy of every letter we send and receive

Clients
In their words, once the letters stopped
“Alvin explained the payroll penalty without making me feel foolish for falling behind. We had a payment plan in place before the levy date.”
“My father left a shoebox of IRS letters. Ishita sorted it into what the estate owed and what it didn't, and the fee was the one she quoted.”
Sample client stories. Every tax matter is different, and one client's result doesn't predict another's.
Questions
Things people want to know first
Is the first call really free?
Yes. It's 30 minutes by video. We read the letter with you, say what it means and, if we can help, what the flat fee would be. You owe nothing for it.
What does a flat fee leave out?
The tax itself, and the penalties and interest, which go to the IRS, not to us. A Tax Court trial is quoted on its own if a case ever gets that far. Each fee on the fees page lists what it covers.
Do I ever have to come to the office?
No. We meet by video or phone, and papers come through a secure upload. If you'd rather sit across a table, we can meet at the Auburn Avenue office.
Can you make my tax debt go away?
No one honest can promise that. What we do is find the options the law gives you, such as a payment plan, penalty relief, a pause in collection or an offer, and make the case for the one that fits.
Will the IRS keep calling me?
Once you sign a power of attorney, the IRS contacts us about your case. You'll get a copy of everything it sends.
Have the letter nearby? That's all you need.
Book the free 30-minute video call, or phone the office. We'll start with the notice number in the letter's top corner.
